THE YARD DAWGZ BRUTALIZE THE BATTLEWINGS IN BOSSIER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE YARD DAWGZ BRUTALIZE THE BATTLEWINGS IN BOSSIER

BOSSIER CITY, LA (July 4, 2010) - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz had easy going Saturday at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, winning an ugly affair 70-44.  The BattleWings couldn’t find the handle on the ball, fumbling 5 times (losing 2 of them with one returned for a Yard Dawgz score), Jimmy Welker – the Wings 5th QB of the season – was intercepted once, and the BattleWings offense was stopped by the Yard Dawgz 3 more times when the Wings turned the ball over on downs.

BattleWings’ Head Coach Jon Norris said, “There’s not a team in the AFL that can afford to turn the ball over three times and give up three defensive stops.  That’s like fumbling the ball away six times in a game.”

Even though one of those OKC stops was on the BattleWings opening drive, it looked pretty good at the end of the first quarter with the Wings leading 14-7.  But then it got a bit dicey with the home team giving the ball up twice in the second quarter:  once by a Welker interception and once by a fumble.  The Yard Dawgz led at halftime 35-24.

OKC’s signal caller had a pretty good night against the Wings.  Tommy Grady was 23 of 34 for 273 yards and 9 TD’s, getting picked twice.  His main targets were Fulton, who caught 8 for 112 yards and 4 TD’s.  Marshall caught 4 for just 37 yards, but 3 catches were for scores.  Lee and Cook each caught a Grady touchdown pass.

P.J. Berry caught 7 Welker passes, 3 of which were for touchdowns.  James Jordan caught 6 for 53 yards and 2 scores.  Kinsmon Lancaster caught 5 for 32 yards and Willis Marshall caught a pair.  Berry usually gets at least one kickoff return for a score, but not in this one.  He returned 8 for 145 yards, and though he came close several times, could never break one.

The Wings hit the road for the final time in 2010 next week playing against SW Division Leading Tulsa in Tulsa.  Oklahoma City returns home to face the Iowa Barnstormers.  The Yard Dawgz upped their season record to 5-7 while the Wings drop to 3-10.  The BattleWings will close the 2010 season after a bye week after playing Tulsa, playing their last two games against the Jacksonville Sharks and Dallas Vigilantes at the CenturyTel Center July 24th and July 31st
