Sharks Destroy Wings in 2nd Half

Bossier City, LA (July 23, 2010) - The Bossier Shreveport BattleWings returned to the CenturyTel Center in Bossier looking for a rare win, but it was not to be tonight.  The Wings were forced to see their seventh QB change in the season due to injuries, as still another Wings signal caller – this time Jimmy Welker – went down late in the second quarter and may be done for the season.  That threw Kinsmon Lancaster back in as field general.  Lancaster had already played that role when season starter Raymond Philyaw was knocked out in Alabama with a season ending knee injury.  In a game against Tulsa, Lancaster was eliminated with a shoulder injury, and has just recently come of Injured Reserve.  It has been the QB turnstile for Bossier-Shreveport all season long.

Jacksonville came to Bossier with their own quarterback woes, watching as Aaron Garcia went down last week with a shoulder injury and concussion.  However, Bernard Morris stepped right in and led the Sharks to a victory last week in impressive fashion.  And tonight he carried on, completing 19 of 25 for 228 yards and 3 TD’s, whipping the Wings 48-20.  Welker went down late in the second quarter with the Wings ahead.  In fact, the halftime score was 20-19, Bossier-Shreveport.  Lancaster spelled Welker for the last two offensive series before the half.  Neither drive resulted in points.  In fact, the last time the Wings put points on the board came with 8:51 to play in the second quarter on a 14 yard Welker pass to Moquit Ruffins.  Jacksonville skunked the Wings in the second half.  There was a Wings TD called back early in the 4th quarter on a controversial tipped pass caught in the endzone by a Wings player after bouncing off the net.  The back judge (after a lengthy meeting with the other officials) ruled the ball was touched by a fan.  The CenturyTel Center erupted as fans watched the instant replay in slow motion and saw no fan interference.

Morris spread his passes around, throwing TD strikes to three different receivers:  Campbell, Willis, and Baker.  The running game worked well for Jacksonville as they scored 4 times on the ground.

Welker was 11 of 17 for 3 touchdowns and 107 yards before his night was ended.  Lancaster was 10 of 32 for 113 yards and no scores.  However, Lancaster scored twice early in the game on touchdown catches from Welker.  Neither team had a turnover.

Jacksonville returns home to close their regular season with a tough test against number 1 Spokane.  The BattleWings finish the year at home hosting the Dallas Vigilantes.  Bossier-Shreveport’s lone road victory in 2010 was at Dallas early in the year, a one—point victory clinched on a two point conversion with no time remaining.
